Introduction / week 1

Hi my name is Michelle. I am a returning student for about two years. I have been working on finishing my A.S. degree with a major in Administration of Justice and a variety of certificates from business to child development. I have been a full time student, but it hasn’t been easy because I work full time, I’m married and I have a 3 ½ year old son, which each one of these can be very demanding.
As one can imagine there never seems to be enough time, so this semester I have chosen to take it a little easier. Not because of the stress that I have been through but because I am taking English and Math this semester. I am not about to fail either of these classes and taking them both in a semester will almost feel that I am taking a full load.  I have promised myself that I will study hard and take the time that each class needs and not become too overwhelmed. And still have time for my family.
Thank you for reading and I hope that this class is as fun as it a great learning experience.

  1. Hi Michelle,
I am returning to school as well, and I'll be working full time and am enrolled as a full time student this semester. Did you find it easier to take online classes for this? Or in person classes? I'm concerned I won't be able to manage my time appropriately. Usually the only thing I want to do after work is sleep!
I admire your work ethic, balancing work, school, child, and partner to try to achieve your goals! I'm looking forward to working with you this semester.

  2. Hi Carrie,
Honestly I find that on campus classes seem to require so much less than an online class. One has to be able to manage ones time properly to stay focus with the demand of an online course.
I have taken many one unit online courses and you'd be amaze of what they expect from their students. Of course, the benefit is that you are able to work whenever you like, within the time frame, which really makes it worth take an online course.

  3. (: Hi Michelle!

Aww 3 1/2 year old, I love them at that age. I love kids and hope that one day I have one of my own. I know it is a lot of work but I feel that I am ready.

I agree that working full time and going to school full time is stressful. I remember trying to take this class and 2 others during the fall semester but had to drop it because I was falling behind from planning my wedding. To me, having both math and english is full time schedule. What math are you taking?

Hopefully this online course will help you spend more time with your family. I look forward to working with you this semester.

  5. Hi Michelle,

Math and English in one semester is definitely a full load, especially when you work full-time and have a family. Is your math class online too?

What are your plans after finishing your degree?

    Take care,
    Lauren

  6. Hi Michelle,

Just wanted to say I'm a adult re-entry student. I have been attending Santa Rosa J.C. since 2007, receive my Legal Secretary Certificate last May. This May will be receiving my AA in social Behavorial Science. It has been a long road and sometimes I have to pinch myself for realization.

    We call can do it.

  7. Hi Michelle,

About 13 years ago, I was a single mom of a 3 year old, full time student and had a full time job. I was enrolled at the SRJC in the 2 year electronic technology certificate progam. Even though it was one of my most challenging times in my life, I must say, it is one of my biggest accomplishments.

I understand how difficult it can be. Stay focused and determined.

I am looking forward working with you and completing this class together.
